Building a "Winery"

What a fun idea Amy had on our way back from a recent trip to Fredericksburg. First though, a little bit about the trip.

We had a great time at Baron’s Creekside Resort. This place is a must visit if you’re in the Fredericksburg area. We ended up one evening at the Vintners Hideaway where we met Jesse, from Whisper Path Cellars in San Antonio, who happened to be doing a pairing and tasting that evening. Jesse explained that he started making wine because someone gave him a wine kit. It became a passion and now he’s making 1,000 cases a year. His selections at the tasting were really good. We even appreciated his Tempranillo which we don’t normally enjoy. However, you’ve got to try the Montepulciano, truly unique and excellent.

On the way home Amy said, maybe we could get a kit and give this a shot. After some time thinking about where we would store it and control temperature, we decided we’d give it a go. First things first, we had to build “the winery” which is really just an insulated cabinet. Our son, Mason and I, drew it out and built it. We can hold a combo of 7 barrels or carboys and temperature control is working really well even in the Texas heat!
